The Gauntt House is believed to have been built by Jacob Middleton Gauntt around 1808, although some descendants believe it was built earlier by his father Israel. The house has been restored by the Newberry Historical & Museum Society and is believed to be the oldest frame house in Newberry.
The house is a small two story building with a large fireplace on one side. The first floor has two rooms, while the second floor has one large room. A staircase leads to the second floor and a door on the front porch opens directly into the stairway.
The house was moved from its original location before the renovation began.
