Militarybet 1780 and 1781He served in the military as a private in the Patriot Militia bet 1780 and 1781 in Newberry, South Carolina. In multiple places it has been reported that he was wounded, taken prisoner and escaped. Most reports say he was wounded at the Battle of Musgrove's Mills in 1780 and later taken prisoner. The capture and escape in some reports took place at the Battle of Hayes Station in 1781. He was recognized as a DAR Patriot but now his service is flagged because it appears to be confused with another Charles Griffin who also served in South Carolina. There is a Charles Griffin in the book "Roster of SC Patriots in the American Revolution" by Ross but he was a Private and Sergeant. My Charles was only 17-18 years old at the time of these battles and while he likely would have been serving in the militia, he would most probably not have already reached rank of Sergeant.1,4,10
