Census1850She appeared in the census in 1850 in Newberry County, South Carolina.10
Will17 Mar 1851She signed a will on 17 Mar 1851 in Newberry County, South Carolina. Named as heirs in the will were Simon G. Gallman, George Gallman, John P. Gallman, Viney E. Cannon, Ruth C. Gallman, and Rebecca Maffett. John P. Gallman was named as executor, but died two months after she did. Her daughter Mary Magdeline (w/o Micajah Harris) was still living but was not named in the will but was mentioned in the 1857 equity court case.11,12
Probate8 Jul 1852She had her estate probated on 8 Jul 1852 in Newberry District, South Carolina. Susannah's father, George Gray Jr, apparently did not approve of her husband. In his will he left slaves to all his children except Susannah as property. In her case, he lent her slaves for her natural life which her husband was to have “no control over in any way what ever.” His will stipulated that at her death, the executors of his will were to sell them and the money was to be divided among her children. After her death there were two Equity Court Cases (1854 and 1857) regarding this portion of his will.12
