Burial | aft 1750 | Frederick (De Grau) Gray was buried aft 1750 at DeWalt-Gray Family Cemetery in an unmarked grave in Newberry County, South Carolina. A marker was erected by descendants in 1963 with following inscription: Frederick Gray First Settler Baron in the German Court Came to America with the land grant from King George of England about 1750 with a daughter who married George Gallman and son George who married Eva Margareta Egmont Dereyster. This cemetery on land which was part of the land grant. Erected by descendants in 19631 |
Note | | Known in Germany as De Grau, the name was changed to Gray in the colonies. Grau being German for Gray. Frederick Gray was reported to be a Prussian solier in the King's Guard. |
